There are a few events during a lifetime that people always know the answer to, “Where you when…” The inauguration of the 44th President of the United States on January 20th, 2009, could become one of those events. The question becomes, “How will you experience the inauguration?”
This question first caught my eye on a listserv for educational technologists. Without thinking about it myself, I assumed that if you weren’t lucky enough to get an invitation and see the event live, then you would watch it on television. It turns out that type of thinking is dated, and belongs back in the previous century. However, similar to the way technology provided Election ‘08 with multiple connections to people, apparently there will be a number of different ways for people to keep up with the inauguration.
After broadcast television, it seems like an infinite number of web sites will be streaming the ceremony. I first stumbled across some of the major players, like CNN Live and C-SPAN
. Then, I noticed that UStream and even Hulu will offer a video stream of the inauguration. I think the trick will be finding a web site that is not inundated with hits at 8:30 AM (PST) to watch a video stream of the ceremony.
Beyond simply, watching the inauguration, I happened to read this blog post by Liz Kolb that shares how students will use their cell phones to share their experiences on Inauguration Day. In addition, her blog posts lists news outlets that requesting media from people attending the inauguration.
Please share with a comment about how you plan to experience the inauguration.

With my first day at a new job, I’m not 100% sure if I’m going to be able to watch or how I am going to watch. However, thanks for posting these links!
