I’m in History class today, being taught by CTAP IV how to use Calisphere
(a great collection of primary resources, primarily California content) in the classroom. Calisphere is funded by the University of California. In addition, the California University system also funds a series of curriculum projects, including the History Project
. It was interesting to see such a collaborative project; CTAP IV partnered with Calisphere and the History Project to create the iTouch History Project. This project has been rolled out in the Region IV area, in particular to library media specialists, history-social science teachers, and educational technologists. I’m attending the training (along with representatives from the other CTAP regions) to replicate this project in our respective regions.
It was good to see a teacher in attendance bring up the issue of copyright. Calisphere does not own the resources housed on the web site; it aggregates resources from a variety of institutions. The resources are available free for use in classrooms. To assist with the teaching of copyright and fair use, Calisphere does note the contributing institutions, so students know who to contact if they would like to include these resources in web-based projects, such as podcasts.
