I am preparing materials for a MacBook 101 workshop that I will be teaching next week. While the workshop attendees will be giving up a few days of their Spring Break to attend, they will also leave the workshop with a MacBook of their very own. While I developed the agenda for this workshop, I tweeted a question requesting suggestions of favorite Mac applications. One of the things that I thought about including was Comic Life, a neat piece of software that makes it easy to create comics with your own pictures. Comic Life used to come pre-installed on Mac computers, but alas no more. Bcurwick
suggested that I show people Macs can generate screen capture images with keystrokes. Then inspiration struck, Ted Lai Doctor Dolittle download shared with me that the creators of Comic Life (Plasq) make a very neat screen capture tool called Skitch. (Sorry Windows users, this software is Mac only.) Autopsy full
Currently Skitch
is in beta, and thus a free download. Skitch goes beyond simply creating .jpg screen captures. In addition to allowing you to also capture images from the iSight/webcam, the software includes tools to highlight, annotate, and enhance images with shapes and colors. Especially neat are the features that Skitch builds in to share all captured images. Skitch gives you web space with your own URL as well as a multitude of embed codes so you can include your images in blogs. Skitch also allows for quick setup so that your images can be shared to your flickr or .Mac account.
Since I have spent time creating screenshots for handouts for workshops, I can immediately see the value of this piece of software for a trainer. However, this is also a tool that the beginner can use to record an onscreen computer problem and add notes about it. Such a picture would be worth more than a hundred words of description in an email.
As I finish this post, I would like to thank the Brian, Joe, Linda U, and John for taking the time to comment on my first blog post. Apparently I saw the whole picture of the hand spelling out “blog”, I did not notice the birdie in the picture
I would love to hear back from people their impressions and uses for Skitch and links to alternative screen capture solutions. download Serpico movie Nympha movie full

I’m thinking “we” all should get together and just play w/all this stuff one day!
@ the Skitch demo… I think it is a requirement for all demo voices to have an obnoxious foreign accent to get the products purpose across.
Another great piece of software for motion screen capture and annotation is ScreenFlow. Not free, but very intuitive and fun to use for demoing software. Again, only for the Mac. $85 for education.
B :o)
I love Skitch, although I forget to use it and Cmd+Shift+4 usually gets the job done. I like the new theme…and I agree with Linda, we should get together and have a techie party with food.
I was a little busy to jump on Burt’s blog. There have been quite a few screen capture software pieces, such as SnapZPro which I think just went through another upgrade. As Joe says….Cmd+Shift+4 does a lot and if you want that whole screen it is just Cmd+Shift+3….
I think we would need a week off to try everything out. Maybe this could replace Summer Tech Fest Burt. We could just lock up in a room each day for a week with each other.
